This South African wine farm sits on the east-facing slopes of the Constantiaberg, barely seven miles from False Bay; it originally formed part of the Constantia Estate, which was founded by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the new Dutch colony at the tip of Africa. It is today owned by the Mueller family, who have done much to restore the farm and the vineyards to their former glory. Buitenverwachting translates as “beyond expectation,” and so they have named this Sauvignon Blanc “Beyond.” This is a refined, mineral-tinged white packed with notes of passion fruit, melon, kiwi and lime backed by a pronounced herbal and mineral edge. It displays an elegance typical of cool climate Sauvignon Blanc.
