This week’s Wine of the Week features 2018 Glenelly Glass Collection Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch, South Africa!

Bordeaux master and former owner of Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, May-Eliane de Lencquesaing was immediately struck by the beauty of South Africa and saw tremendous potential in the terroir. By 2003, she had purchased Glenelly Estate and embarked on a French adventure on African soil, subsequently planting 66 of the property’s 128 hectares to vineyards.

Glenelly Estate is located on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain in the heart of Stellenbosch. The mountainous terrain, adequate rainfall, well-drained soils, and diverse terroir make it one of the most sought-after wine-growing regions in the country.

Glenelly’s Glass Collection range is named after May’s lifelong passion for glassmaking. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from various blocks of vines on the estate, giving complexity and balance. The nose flaunts pretty aromas of florals, dried herbs, and red berries. The palate delivers a classic Bordeaux profile with bright acidity, black currants, and cherry fruit with subtle hints of dark chocolate and spice.

Pair with smoked braised beef ribs, veal, and rack of lamb with warm parsnip salad.
