This Washington State Syrah is your new favorite fall wine!

Last week we featured Paringa Shiraz as our Wine of the Week, so this week we bring you 2019 Tenet “The Pundit” Syrah out of Columbia Valley, Washington! This is a great opportunity to taste the same grape, Syrah (Shiraz is the Australian name for the same varietal) in two completely different styles.

Chateau Ste. Michelle’s Head Winemaker, Bob Bertheau and his Washington team, along with several Rhone valley collaborators have combined their experience to produce The Pundit Syrah and three other Rhone blends. The Syrah grape has become sort of the unsung hero of Washington State wines due to the ideal growing conditions in the region. The massive temperature shifts at night and mix of volcanic pumice and loamy soil make for complex flavors and well-maintained fruit acidity. With Pundit Syrah, the goal was to break old paradigms and have people view Washington Syrah and other Rhone varietals in a new light, which was certainly accomplished in this consistently high-scoring Syrah.

The Pundit is deep ruby in the glass with aromas of blackberry and currants mingled with dark earthy undertones. The decadent mouthfeel with flavors of cherry, blueberry, and dark chocolate is complimented by a long, juicy finish.

Pair with grilled meats and veggies, hamburgers, pizza, and smoked gouda.
